Got wrinkles? Smile lines? Spider Veins? Thin eyelashes? A tattoo you wish you didn’t have? Or, how about unwanted body hair?

The truth is that many of us do, and there are those of us who want to do something about it. However, we would really like it if that “something” didn’t require a scalpel, a hospital stay, or a lengthy recovery time. Fortunately, modern science has given us an array of non-surgical cosmetic procedures that treat these very issues. For wrinkles, fine lines, and creases there are injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers like Juvéderm®, Perlane®, and Restylane®. There are laser treatments for hair removal, tattoo removal, for spider veins and even some to help erase the signs of aging (i.e. Fraxel®). More recently, the FDA approved, Latisse®, the first and only prescription treatment to make thinning eyelashes thicker, darker and longer. Finally, there are microdermabrasion treatments, facials and chemical peels that all aid in restoring the skin to a more youthful look.

Luckily for Triad residents, there is no need to buy a plane ticket to NYC to find a center that offers these treatment options. Instead you could visit the Barber Center for Plastic Surgery.

Not only is the Barber Center a state-of-the- art surgical facility that offers the latest and his commitment to the highest standards in the industry has enabled him to become Chief of Plastic Surgery at Moses Cone Hospital, and to be sought out for his expertise in medical columns (both locally and regionally) and local news shows. With all of this, it should be no surprise to find that the center is also home to an extraordinary staff of individuals.

One staff member, Marilyn Caudle, a certified medical esthetician, brings a combination of knowledge of the latest advances in medical skin care and her experience with holistic spa therapies to the center. This enables her to present clients with a full-service skin care menu that includes facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion treatments, and mineral make-up lessons. techniques in procedures (facial rejuvenation, breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, etc. . .) performed by one of America’s Top Plastic Surgeons (as selected by the Research Council of America 5 years running) Dr. W. Byron Barber II, but it also offers an assortment of non-surgical options such as those listed above and more. Dr. Barber is already well known for his skill, experience, professionalism, and dedication to patient safety and confidentiality. He is one of the most prominent plastic surgeons in his field.

Her passion is to help people to look their best, and she works to make this happen by designing a program that addresses the needs and skin concerns for each individual patient. She has designed programs for patients who were concerned with signs of aging, pigmentation/melasma/“age spots,” acne, or Rosacea. Marlee D. Adams, RN-BSN, has been with the center since 2006. She specializes in injectables, and she is certified as a Botox® , Juvéderm®, Perlane®, and Restylane® injector. Within the several years that she has been with the center, Marlee has built a loyal and expanding patient base that has helped elevate the center to Botox® Platinum status. She also has extensive experience with sclerotherapy for vein treatment and is certified and experienced in a multitude of laser procedures such as hair removal, vascular treatments, micro peels, and tattoo and/or pigmentation removal. She has spent over ten years working in the field of non-surgical cosmetic procedures, and she remains committed to continuing her education so as to be able to offer her patients the very latest products and techniques.

When you visit the Barber Center the first face you might see will belong to Alicia Cline, Patient Care Coordinator. Alicia has been with the Barber Center for Plastic Surgery since it opened. She has dedicated herself to learning all aspects of the office, and has experience as the receptionist, office manager, insurance liaison and patient care coordinator. As the patient care coordinator, Alicia provides a vital link between the physician and the patients. She shares a similar commitment as her colleagues to professionalism, customer service, patient care and patient satisfaction. You can guarantee that Alicia will help you in any way she can.

All the staff members at the center will work with patients to help decide on the best course of treatment. When patients come in to inquire about nonsurgical treatments, a consultation is scheduled and the time is taken to discuss the available options and to listen to any patient concerns. A common concern is the time it will take to recover. While there are always certain factors that must be taken into consideration, in general, recovery time is fairly minimal. Of the non-surgical treatments available at the center, Botox® is the most popular. Coincidently, it is also the most popular non-surgical treatment in the country. It is used to treat crow’s feet, frown lines and wrinkles in the forehead and around the lips. After treatment, patients can typically resume their daily activities. This is similar for other procedures such as Juvéderm® also used to smooth away wrinkles and folds on the face.

Other popular treatments include Fraxel®, a safe, non-invasive laser skin treatment that removes years from a patient’s appearance without the side effects and risks associated with chemical peels. Fraxel® can be used to treat sun damage, wrinkles and other signs of aging. There is typically little to no downtime needed for recovery after treatment as well. Latisse® is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for thinning eyelashes. Latisse® is a topical treatment that makes the eyelashes longer, thicker and darker. It should not have a significant impact on your daily activities since it is applied before bed.

If your curiosity is sparked, then it might be worth your while to call the center in order to schedule a consultation. Another option would be to attend one of Dr. Barber’s upcoming seminars. To find out more information about those, be sure to visit the center’s website www.barberplasticsurgery.com.
