Dr. Barber in the News!

Latest News in Plastic Surgery!

Gynecomastia is a condition of enlarged breasts in
the male. This condition occurs most frequently in teenage boys. Most of the time, the enlarged breast will spontaneously resolve by the time the teenager is about 16 to 18, however in some the breasts do not shrink. The breasts can range from only slightly large to full female appearing breasts. They can be quite painful. The etiology of the problem is not well understood but is likely related to hormonal stimulation of the breasts.

The condition is most often treated with a combination of ultrasonic assisted liposuction for most of the breast
combined with a small incision to remove any residual
tissue that does not reduce with liposuction. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia in either Dr. Barber's office surgical suite or an outpatient surgical center. Most patients can return to work or school in about 7 days and can resume unlimited activities in about 6 weeks.
