A neck lift is a surgical facial procedure to remove excess skin and fat, sometimes referred to as the turkey gobbler, on the neck that obscures the natural contour of the neck making a patient appear older. If you have excess skin on the neck, creating the turkey gobbler look or simply bands under the chin, then surgical tightening of the skin will be necessary. A neck lift is almost always combined with a lower face lift, since the cheek skin and the neck skin are essentially one and the same. It is difficult to lift the neck without also lifting the cheeks at the same time.
If the primary concern is only fat which obscures the lines of the neck, then liposuction or Coolsculpting® can possibly be done to sculpt the chin and/or neck area into a more youthful shape. In order to determine which procedure is best for you, you will need to set up a confidential consultation with Dr. Barber and allow him to discuss you individualized plan of care.
Length of Surgery
The surgery is done under general anesthesia in Dr. Barber’s onsite AAAHC accredited surgical suite. The procedure typically takes 3 hours and patients can expect to go home 1-2 hours after completion of the procedure.
The average patient can return to work within 7-10 days and resume unrestricted activities, such as exercise, within 2-3 weeks.
