An otoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to correct the position of ears that protrude too much from the sides of the head. This protrusion can make the ears appear disproportionately large. Surgery is performed to rotate and fix the ears closer to the side of the head thus making the ears less noticeable.

Each case of ear surgery is highly individualized and for that reason it is best to consult with a board certified plastic surgery regarding your concerns. Our doctors and staff will be happy to assist you should you seek care for protruding ears.

Length of Surgery

An otoplasty can typically be done here in our fully accredited surgical suit under general anesthesia.  In some cases, Dr. Barber and Dr. Scurry might recommend the Surgical Center of Greensboro.  In either case, the procedure typically takes about 2 hours to complete and the patient will return home the same day.

Most patients can resume normal day to day activities within one week and resume unrestricted activities, such as exercise, within two weeks.
